Sardar Patel in India: the world's tallest statue

In October 2018, India inaugurated the world's tallest statue in the western state of Gujarat. Rising to over 180 meters, it represents Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, a figure of Indian Independence and a role model for Hindu nationalists. Why was this statue erected here?
