Prehistoric times - Prehistoric archaeology

Prehistory is the longest period in the history of mankind, and refers to all the events that preceded the appearance of writing. Yet there's nothing set in stone about it, and it refers us directly to the lively scientific disciplines, notably archaeology, which are constantly advancing our knowledge of our most distant ancestors.
