Mountain clinics: does fresh air really heal?

The 19th century saw the lʹessor of mountain clinics, in Leysin, in the canton of Vaud, or Crans-Montana in Valais. The fresh Alpine air was praised for its curative properties, particularly for patients suffering from tuberculosis and other lung diseases. But did these stays in the great outdoors really lead to better health?
