Monkeypox (formerly Monkeypox) has been circulating in humans for longer than anyone thought until today. Initially considered a zoonosis (a disease transmissible only between animals), everything changed in the summer of 2022 when an outbreak of smallpox spread throughout Europe. Animal transmission cannot be the only cause of this rapid spread.
