In power in Germany since 2005, Angela Merkel is on course to set a new record for longevity at the helm of the world's 4th largest economy. Out of reach of her Social Democrat opponents and impervious to attacks from the populist right who accuse her of handing Germany over to refugees, the Chancellor seems indestructible.
