Les Tourbières des Ponts-de-Martel

Swiss peat mining has been banned since 1987 thanks to the Rothenturm initiative. In the Ponts-de-Martel region, there used to be 1,500 hectares of peat bogs. Today, 10% remain, of which 1% are close to their natural state. In some places, pine trees are advancing, reflecting the drying out of these wetlands.
