Le Loft is 20 years old!

On April 26, 2001, "Loft Story" debuted on M6, launching the French-language version of reality TV. Candidates were locked in a prefabricated loft with a swimming pool and filmed in real time. The program shook up the small screen, sent ratings into a frenzy, and made Jean-Edouard, Loana and the others instant but short-lived stars. The "Loft", like a preamble to a new era of self-mediatization, of the quarter dʹheure of celebrity boosted by social networks, of an ever more voyeuristic and trashy TV business, of unabashed sexism.
