Generating energy from metro tunnels

Converting a metro tunnel into a source of geothermal energy is the solution devised by researchers at the Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne. They have succeeded in quantifying heat exchanges in a tunnel and have estimated the energy savings that the city of Lausanne would make by using this system on the future M3 metro line.
