Does a humanitarian cause justify canvassing?

Some NGOs are now using telephone canvassing to try and obtain donations from private individuals. The practice was originally aimed more at businesses, but it has a lot to appeal to the humanitarian market. But does the cause justify resorting to sometimes aggressive canvassing?
