Cesare Lombroso, an Italian psychiatrist of the late 19th century, is considered the inventor of criminal anthropology. His approach was to analyze physiological or psychological characteristics in order to deduce violent or criminal tendencies. According to him, there are "born criminals" and "insane criminals". Are they very different from those taught today in our universities, and which give rise to the criminal profiling practices used by our police?
