The Energy Charter Treaty is an international agreement designed to promote energy cooperation between member countries. It establishes a legal framework to protect investments in the energy sector. In concrete terms, today and under the ECT, multinational energy companies can attack states wishing to free themselves from fossil fuels. Many countries are leaving the TCE, but not Switzerland.
