The birth of the history of religion as a discipline

If the purpose of the History of Religions, which is also called the Science of Religions, is to analyze religious phenomena, then the researcher must distance himself from his own convictions and treat all religions and beliefs on an equal footing. It presupposes that the researcher puts his or her own convictions at a distance and places all religions and all beliefs on an equal footing.
