Solo parents: a different kind of family

Single-parent families account for almost 17% of households with children in Switzerland, and their numbers are rising all the time. At their head are women, in the overwhelming majority, who find themselves alone after separation, bereavement or by personal choice. In just a few decades, societal changes and medical advances have turned the traditional family model on its head. But for single parents, reconciling work and family life remains a daily challenge.
