Psychiatry: Gheel, the "city of mad people

It all begins with the story of an Irish princess who was beheaded by her father near the village of Gheel in Belgium. Over the centuries, the town of Gheel developed the practice of taking in the sick, who were housed by its inhabitants. This led to admiration from some, who saw the model as an ideal, and fierce criticism from others, such as the 19th-century alienists, who advocated the internment of "lunatics" in asylums.

At the same time, the town of Gheel became a model for the future
