Noise pollution: noise is always running
According to the Federal Office for the Environmentʹs report on noise exposure, one in ten people in Switzerland lives in a place where the noise pollution threshold is exceeded. Noise, that undesirable sound that lʹon feels to be disturbing, can make you ill. It puts the body on alert, disrupts sleep and damages mental health. Five hundred cardiovascular deaths a year are thought to be attributable to noise pollution. The cause is an increase in heart rate and arterial hypertension. This health finding is well known, and the sound parenthesis of confinement made it possible to realize the ʹomnipresence of noise. Despite legal requirements, exposure limits are regularly exceeded. However, there are ways to remedy the situation. How can we limit noise pollution? How does noise interfere with living together? What kind of sound quality should be preferred, without necessarily living in silence?
