Messy hair

Whether we love it or hate it, our hair is part of our identity. Brown, red, blonde, straight, frizzy or wavy, our 120,000 or so hair follicles are unique. And yet, the top of our head is subject to many restrictions that are not so easy to get rid of: hair has to be short when you're a boy, straight when you're a black woman, dyed when you're a woman getting older. Men, on the other hand, have a complex about their bald heads. Why is hair linked to eternal beauty and youth? How has it become a tool of resistance and self-affirmation? Why is it so painful to lose it?
