Far from being chaotic, our sense of smell follows a precise spatial code. A study published in Cell and carried out on mice reveals that each olfactory neuron expresses a specific receptor according to its position in the nose, forming a veritable "map". This discovery could shed light on the mysteries of loss of smell, such as that associated with Covid.
