Les Echos de Vacarme - Construction sites: why so many deaths?

In Switzerland, people still often die on construction sites. Falls, collapsed scaffolding, crushed loads, collapsed trenches, electric shocks, proximity to vehicles or trains are all risks that workers have to deal with on a daily basis. Fatalities often go unnoticed, and mainly affect people in precarious situations, temporary jobs, poorly trained workers and young people. How can we best protect those who build our homes, roads and bridges, whatever the weather? And when tragedy strikes, who is held responsible and what reparation can grieving families obtain?
