Imposter syndrome is rife in the medical profession, where hierarchy, pressure and the quest for perfection create a breeding ground for self-doubt. According to researcher and HUG anesthetist Mia Gisselbaek, almost 60% of Swiss anesthetists suffer from it, a phenomenon linked to stress, over-investment and sometimes burn-out. Women and young people seem particularly at risk, often due to a lack of recognition or a sense of belonging.
