How can we better predict recovery after a coma?

The brain, even in a state of unconsciousness, makes a link between heartbeats and external sounds. A study carried out at the CHUV on comatose patients following cardiac arrest shows that this ability to integrate indicates the preservation of neural circuits, relevant for subsequent recovery. The study is published in the Proceedings of the American Academy of Sciences.
