The end of the alpha male's reign

It was long believed that because they were generally larger, males were pretty much systematically dominant in primates. Now, a study of 121 species reveals that there are many where power is clearly more shared between the two sexes - and a not insignificant number of cases where females dominate. So how do they do it?
