Chicks spontaneously associate certain sounds with certain shapes

You spontaneously associate "bouba" with a round shape and "kiki" with a pointed one: this reflex, observed in humans regardless of language, age or culture, has just been demonstrated in young chicks. Researchers at the University of Padua, Italy, have reproduced this test with these chicks, which make the same sound-form associations as we do.
