A study from the University of Freiburg, led by Professor Stephanie Durrleman, challenges conventional wisdom about bilingualism and autism. Contrary to certain beliefs, growing up with two languages does not hinder the development of autistic children. The study even suggests that bilingualism can enhance their communicative and cognitive skills, as it does for neurotypical children. These results argue in favor of encouraging multilingualism in families and schools.
